The reason I choose my topic was because at one point in my life I thought I wanted to be part in serving my country. I started researching on what that life would look like. I ran into veterans who suffered severe post-traumatic stress disorder. I read and realized that being at a high risk of being diagnosed with PTSD was a very serious problem. Many people are not aware that we deploy many soldiers to war, and expect for soldiers to protect our country, but when veterans come back we do not give them the resources they need for their mental disorders. I invested a lot of time after school, and during school to finish my project. It was not easy because there were times where I felt I should be doing something else that didn’t consist of the fire project. Through my project the hardest struggle I had was finding information for the global context. Majority of the information was for national and local. What I did was search information for each country and then put all the information together. I split the way in how each country approached cases of PTSD on veterans. I also grouped the similarities and how it helped veterans with their severe PTSD.
The most important thing that the audience should know is that sometimes we expect for soldiers to protect our country and exceed all these expectation. We want the safety, but do not give the same effort when veterans come back with lack of motivation. Due to the fact that we do not give enough support veterans lose their families, friends, and employment. I am most proud for giving good analyses about the national, global, and local context. Coming up with any action was also another difficulty because I didn’t want my action plan to be too ambiguous. I ended up finding a program where donations can be given for homeless veterans. I plan to carry a drive at my school to get students to donate any clothes or food not needed. I think this action plan really cares the essence of why veterans need the support, before they end up losing everything. Veterans who come back from war have a hard time living a normal life and that is also important to know. I would advise upcoming seniors who will be doing the fire project to stay organized, stay on track, and find something that the student is passionate about. Being able to learn about a topic gives an advantage to being more acknowledge in that certain topic than others.
